Abstract:
Falling is a common phenomenon and the most significant cause of injury for elderly people. This study investigates the methodology to identify falls from normal Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and how assistance can be given soon afterwards, to prevent elders from fatal conditions.
Here, a Wireless Sensor System (WSS), based on accelerometer and gyroscope, is attached with their chest like a sticker which contains of this WSS to collect real-time fall data.
Experiment protocols starts at standing position as its initial position and consisting of two types of falls such as forward fall and backward fall whenever these types of falls take place the Elder’s Kit which is attached to the individual, sends signals to the Monitoring Department and then the medical assistance will be provided to that particular patient as soon as possible.
Executive Summary:
This project simply targets, those who need special care relevant to their movements, such people are elders and patients who must be stayed in bed. Therefore their movements should be monitored for their own health safety without their concern because they have their own freedom to move.
So, this fall detection system which is a prototype and which can be applicable in a care taking places such as elders’ home and even in hospital wards, is needed to monitor their orientations which has some facilities to measure their acceleration as well as their gyration for a better posture detection. If suppose a fall happens this system should alert the care takers for immediate medical assistance.
Even though there are advanced Fall Detectors are available, understanding the basic functions of this system is so important. Hence such a prototype is discussed in this project.
