Gait and Motion Analysis for Bio-mechanics Experiment

Abstract

In this experiment, our aim was to analyze the components and dynamics of motion. We chose to observe the kicking action, where three subjects were asked to perform this action on the force plate. Motion analysis software and equipment were used to record the motion for each angle; in the report the left hip angles, left knee angles and left ankle angles for all three subjects were compared along with the force in the x, y and z directions. With all the graphs generated for the mentioned parameters from the software, it was possible to discuss and compare the kicking force and motion for all subjects. These were the kinetic and kinematic components of the motion.

Introduction

The technology that supports human motion analysis has advanced dramatically in the past two decades. Motion systems are of many varieties including infrared reflective light, refractive light, digital video camcorders, electromagnetic sensors, and accelerometers. Software is abundantly available for measuring and recording particular body areas or whole systems during a variety of activities.
Detection requires the use of markers that are either active (radiating sound, light, or electrical waves) or passive (reflecting infrared, refracting real light, or electromagnetic waves). In our experiment, the markers were reflecting infrared light. The ability to accurately acquire ground reaction forces has been provided by the force platforms. Gait analysis consisting of joint kinematics, kinetics and dynamic EMG data is performed and properly interpreted by experienced individuals, it is now recognized as a clinically useful tool.
In our study, we are going to analyze the kicking motion for three subjects and then compare the phases and plots. The software that will be used is the 8-camera Vicon Motion analysis system, and it will capture the lower limb kinetics. The subjects must have 16 reflective markers placed on their lower limbs in such a way that they are in close.........
