Synopsis:
Scientists are crossing into the shadowy hinterland between life and death, by harnessing the power of the extreme cold to stop hearts in order to cure people. Pioneering surgeons have developed a way of putting patients into a state of “suspended animation.” By draining some of the blood from their body and cooling it until their heart stops, they induce clinical death. This gives them a window of opportunity to operate on the brain without massive blood loss. They then warm the patient bringing them back from their clinical death unharmed. Crucially, it is the cold that stops the patient from suffering brain death. This film investigates the history and development of a controversial and dangerous procedure.......
